You can be fluent in 3-4 years but you wont be able to speak it “perfectly.”
That’s why we take our native language classes throughout grade school and college; there’s always more to learn.
The first year of Spanish is mostly about the culture and grammar. You’ll be able to hold a simple conversation after your first year.
hmm….spanish i would say is the same as english..well they have a lot of similarities…
i speak both spanish and english fluently…
hmm but im still takin spanish in h.s…
i would say….about 2-3 yrs ..same as it took you to learn english..

1.
actually im not so sure about that one i just started taking putonghua but i have the odd feeling that spanish is easier…
2.
i think it depends on your capability of understanding the language… and most of all practice makes perfect [[if you practice it the right way.]
1.
no practice makes permanent… sometimes perfect… but permanent
2.
[[tacos are great]]
spanish is pretty common around the US so i am guessing, with a majority of people speaking it, i guess you can use it then. Oh! and when you are eating at MExican restaurants, practic there….

I think if you practice it a lot by watching TV in Spanish, reading in Spanish and talking to people in Spanish, it will take at most 2 years. I had a classmate who learned very good Spanish in 1 year by just talking to his Spanish speaking friends.
I’m telling you this because I’m a Spanish speaker, learned English as a 2nd language in 2-3 yrs. and I’m currently studying Japanese. Besides taking classes, I watch Japanese TV shows, read Japanese magazines and practice speaking to native Japanese speakers. Practice makes it perfect!
Even the natives can’t speak the language perfectly. Since you have studied foreign languages before, you should have some idea of how long it will take you to learn another one.
How long it takes anyone to learn a language depends upon their propensity for learning a new language, and their determination and willingness to stick with it.
By the way, propensity basically means how well a person is capable of doing something.
It all depends on the method you use and on your willing to progress.
2 or 3 years in Greece. 4 or 5 months if you move to Spain.
The good thing for a Greek speaker is that the phonetic systems in Greek and Spanish are very similar so that a Greek might pass as a Spaniard and the other way round if they learn well and if they’re good with languages, as you told it is your case.
